Former HP, Neoware Executive Jim Kirby Tapped to Head RES Software in the U.S.

Software Industry Veteran Brought On to Capitalize on Emerging Workspace Management Opportunity

RES Software, the leading provider of User Workspace Management software, today announced at VMworld 2009 that it had appointed IT industry veteran Jim Kirby to the position of President, Americas. In this role, Kirby will be responsible for driving RES Software’s U.S. and Americas expansion as it capitalizes on the top line momentum and 2,500 strong customer base it has built with leading companies in Europe. Kirby will report to Hans Middelburg, Chief Executive Officer, and will take responsibility for the existing RES Software operations and staff in the U.S.

“Jim is not only a proven business leader in the U.S. but he is also one of the global industry leaders in the fast growing thin client and virtualization markets. Jim understands what enterprise customers need from their software partners today, and he sees where their infrastructure is headed in the future,” said Mr. Middelburg. “RES Software has the opportunity to become the go-to provider of workspace management software worldwide, and we are confident that Jim’s experience will be instrumental as we position ourselves to be that leader.”

Kirby has spent the last 22 years building successful technology and software organizations. Most recently as VP of Client Virtualization at HP, he was responsible for HP’s thin client revenues in the U.S. Previously, as EVP of Sales at Neoware (a leading thin client technology company acquired by HP in 2007), he established and led a sales strategy and team that helped drive Neoware from less than $40 million to over $100 million in revenues in four years. Kirby was instrumental in building Neoware’s leveraged delivery model through major distributors, OEM’s, value added resellers and partners such as IBM, CDW, Lenovo, Alternative Technologies/Arrow, Dell, Tech Data and HP. Kirby also spent over twelve years at Honeywell in various leadership positions, and at Astea International, an enterprise applications software company, as VP of Sales and Marketing. Kirby is a graduate of Villanova University.

The User Workspace Management market is generating increasing attention as IT professionals and analysts recognize the desktop configuration of the future will be a mix of traditional workstations, thin clients, remote terminals, and virtual desktops, with the complexity of managing all the end user information a key challenge for IT. Workspace Management software enables an enterprise to centrally manage an end user’s “personal” workspace – the unique combination of personal desktop settings, security, and administrative profile – separately from the user’s underlying applications, systems software, and hardware. This greatly simplifies IT administration, ensures compliance, and saves money.

“RES Software’s workspace management technology has cracked the code for what it takes to manage today’s increasingly complex desktop environments – thin clients, virtual desktops and traditional workstations. They have proven their ROI at some of the top companies in the world, names like Allen & Overy (UK), Caisse d’Epargne (France), Societe Generale (France), France Telecom, DISA (Denmark), NAV (Norway), Skattedirektoratet (Norway), City of Rotterdam (Netherlands), Capgemini and IBM,” stated Mr. Kirby. “I am confident we can leverage that success here in the U.S. and continue building the global industry leader.”
