Updata Leads Investment into Altus Assessments

TORONTO, ONTARIO – We are pleased to announce the latest investment from Updata Partners VI. The fund invested an undisclosed amount into Altus Assessments (“Altus”), a Toronto, Ontario-based applicant evaluation and student tracking platform for higher education. Admissions teams leverage Altus’ situational judgement test to measure applicants’ non-cognitive competencies, such as empathy, ethics, and collaboration, which are critical to professional success. Other products include an asynchronous interview tool and an assessment that evaluates fit between applicants and programs.

Altus acquired One45 in conjunction with the investment. The acquisition allows Altus to offer enhanced analytics and visibility into long-term student performance. The robust product suite empowers academic institutions to make data-driven decisions throughout the student lifecycle.

The increasing need for holistic applicant review and admissions processes has supported Altus’s growth. With proprietary, research-based products, Altus has become the market leader in medical school and graduate health science programs, while continuing to expand into other graduate-level disciplines.

Altus exhibits many of the traits we look for – market leadership, capital efficiency, and strong customer retention. The investment will be used to fund the acquisition of One45, expand the product portfolio, and bolster sales and marketing efforts.

Updata will be represented on the Company’s Board by Operating Partner Jim Liang. We look forward to supporting Altus’ continued success.

About Altus Assessments
Altus empowers higher education institutions to look beyond book smarts, and to identify and nurture exceptional professionals by using unique data to generate meaningful insights that influence key academic decisions. We do this through Altus Suite, made up of Casper, Snapshot, and Duet – assessments that provide a clearer, more holistic view of applicants, as well as formative assessments that support the development of in-program learners into exceptional professionals. Our assessments are used by over 400 academic partners in the US, Canada, Australia (and growing!) with 200,000+ applicants taking our assessments each year, including 90% of Canadian and US medical school applicants. We also host the Admissions Summit, an annual 3-day conference, and power the Alo Grant, an annual $100,000 research fund.
